OPEN HOUSE OF THE COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE "LEARNING TO BECOME ENTREPRENEURIAL" NOORD-BRABANT
On 25 March last an open house of the Community of Practice 'Learning to Become Entrepreneurial' took place. The open house was combined with the kick-off meeting of the entrepreneurial projects from Spoor 1 of the subsidy programme “Learning to Become Entrepreneurial”. It was a particularly active and inspiring afternoon where project leaders from subsidised projects from primary and secondary education institutions and vocational training centres met.

Kees de Ridder, director of the Midden Brabant College economy and greenery, holds the opinion that secondary vocational education has an important role in creating work experience, where initiatives and being entrepreneurial are stimulated and rewarded. It is important here that education creates chances and challenges!

Those present received the assignment to formulate a list of characteristics of the entrepreneurial student. The chairman of the day, Wiet de Bruin, concluded from the extensive list of characteristics of the entrepreneurial student that there is no such thing as a standard entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs are a very diverse group and different entrepreneurs have very different characteristics and are successful for various reasons.

Faouzi Chihabi from the Lava Legato Foundation, initiator and organiser of the Community of Practice, explained that the initiative of the Community of Practice started with needs from educators, the enthusiasm of the Province of Noord-Brabant and the wish of the Lava Legato Foundation to assure quality in entrepreneurship and education projects.

The Lava Legato Foundation is looking for a volunteer for a project in Latvia.
Please get in touch with us before 1 November 2007

What is the project about?
Tçrvete is a social care centre run by the local government. It is divided into two departments, a department for children and a department for elderly people. The social care centre employs around 100 people, varying from social workers, teachers and education experts.
There are 38 children living in the children's department and most of them are children with mental problems and special needs. The majority of the children have been living in the centre for a long time (sometimes from birth).
The elderly people's department has 100 inhabitants, mostly people with physical limitations. Some of the inhabitants spend all their time in rehabilitation, others, who can freely move around, walk or go to the local town. Tçrvete organises excursions and trips to other elderly people's care centres for its inhabitants.
The children's department and the elderly people's department celebrate big Latvian festivals together.

The social care centre is located in a picturesque place on a hill, among the woods. Closest public transport is 4 km away and the city centre of Tçrvete is 7km away. Tçrvete is an old, legendary place, 19 km south from Dobele.

What are your tasks as volunteer?
The main goal of the EVS project is enabling the children to meet people from abroad. We think that involving volunteers in everyday activities will bring new ideas and activities to our work. At the same time there will be an exchange of information, cultures and
traditions. It also enables children to speak a foreign language like English or German. Finally, it will be a great experience for our team to meet new people, make new contacts and improve language skills.
Being here in Latvia creates the possibility to learn Latvian history, culture, traditions and habits, the Latvian and maybe even the Russian language. The project offers possibilities to use own skills, related to music, sports, art and ICT.
The social care centre "Tçrvete" wants to host one volunteer that will be responsible for the organisation of leisure activities for children and teenagers. The volunteer will visit the elderly people's department once or twice a week as well.

Interested?
Are you available from December 2007 until August 2008?
